Meet Abigail Pounce, the first teaser from Vaughn Pinpin’s 100-piece Orphanage, scheduled for release on Oct 1. His grim, cartoony style invokes nightmares from Tim Burton (for obvious reasons) with elements of Prophet artist Simon Roy’s line work mixed in. We can’t wait for this set to drop, which will kick off the very first (and very scary!) #NeonMonsters month!

Abigail, whose parents were an unconventional sort of couple. Her father was a veterinarian who felt too much love for one of his patients. On the day of her birth, she found herself as a homeless, orphaned pariah. Her mother died upon birth, and her father died out of grief.
Abigail is now one of the “special” children living at Elsabeth Grinn’s Home for the Peculiar and the Unwanted. It is a haven for “unusually gifted” children. But there is a darkness that looms over the orphanage. There is a mystery in the shadows of its halls. And this “haven” might be far less than ideal.
You can start meeting the children soon over at Neonmob. I made 100 characters for this project and I enjoyed making every single one. It’s one of the coolest projects I’ve ever been commissioned for. And I like how it challenged me at character designing. Hope you guys will like it! Only a few more days till its release! Woot!
Come collect with me on @neonmob and get a limited edition piece when you sign up!  https://www.neonmob.com/r/ZQ86F/

Decode {2013}
This is my piece for ReDiscovery. It’s an art show inspired by Daft Punk over at Gauntlet Gallery in San Francisco. It’s a bit of a celebration for Random Access Memories. Opening reception is on May 18th, which I think is today. If you live near by, do drop by.
I’m pretty excited about the show actually. Some really amazing artists are going to be a part of it like Phil Noto, Andre De Freitas, and John Larriva. Great stuff! Should be an amazing show.
This is the first time I’m going to be a part of a show with a really amazing collection of artists, so I’m really stoked.
BTW, this piece was inspired by Get Lucky. Aw yiss…
{Also, you should click the image to get a better view. Tumblr has a problem with art with wide dimensions}

Medusoid Mycelium (2013)
So I made this as an entry for the Graphika Manila book this year. I’m not expecting anything at the moment. I don’t know if it will be included in the book or not. But eitherway, I’m fairly proud of this piece even though I’m second guessing a few things about this piece.
Anyway, I realize, nearly every year since I made the cover of the GM Book, I’ve been using Graphika Manila as an excuse and motivation to make a decent piece of art. But I always try and do something I haven’t done before. So every entry I send in, from hence forth and before, have been wrought with experimentation. So it’s a great learning experience. In or out, at least I think I took another step forward in my artistic journey.
Anyway, this piece is about being consumed by thoughts or ideas or emotions. Sometimes it can be overwhelming. Like right now, my insecurities pile on and can cripple me emotionally and somewhat physically. A bit of depression can encourage lethargy and apathy. Anyway, I’m fine. That’s partially why I made this. Therapeutic art making I guess. It heals in a sense.
PS: Plus 5 awesome points to those who know the medusoid mycelium reference. Hint: It’s from my favorite book series as a kid. :)
This piece is also available as a print by the way over at my Society 6.

And if you have the time and haven’t scored yet, please score my entry for that Bravest Warriors design contest. Thanks guys.
Also, I’ll try and get Burton X PKMN project back on track next week Friday hopefully after my exams. I’ve been itching to get back on it, but life happens. Still, sorry for not updating. I do read all the mail, and I will try to reply to all of you. Please be patient. :|

Space Cube and Tomato: Sammich

I’ve been feeling mighty depressed and annoyingly emotional recently. And I thought I might as well just scream out in agony through comics. If that’s alright with you guys…

Ang Babaylan Sa Lupain Ng Mga Encantos (Which translates to something like: The Prophetess within the Lands of the Enchanted)

This is an out-take from the spontaneous collab I did with my friend, Adrian Gonzales for Blanc. It was mostly Adrian’s vision and he’s also the amazing photographer that took this photo. I merely let my imagination sprawl onto the image, which is a fancy way of saying I scribbled stuff. Anyway, click to embiggen.

Also, here’s the link to the mag, if you guys want to see the rest of the pics and sketches. Our collab starts on page 122. http://ow.ly/bp1fZ

Also, that is Ford Model Danica Magpantay in the photo.

Thanks for the collab Adrian! :)

Emergernce (2012)
Acrylic on Canvas
——
This is possibly a WIP. I sorta want to re-do the rabbit part. But we’ll let fate tell me if I can.
This’ll be for sale tomorrow at Cubital Fossa, which is my block’s exhibit/contribution for this year’s Fine Arts Fair 2012 at The University of The Philippines College of Fine Arts. So come on down to the college, because a day of art is a day of awesomeness.

The exhibit shall be open from 10:30 - 5:30. So please do drop by. Support sleepless and perpetually busy 3rd year Block X 2011-2012. Haha!
